[edit] Going Outside

[edit] Top Line

  • Find the components to assemble and fuel an EVA pack, and use this to safely get to the outside of the ship's engines

[edit] Verbose Description

  • Once power has been restored to the ship the airlock is working once again however you need a working EVA pack to go outside, this involve finding a portable fuel cannister in the generator room and a control stick in the crew's quarters. Attaching these to the EVA pack in the airlock allows you to safely leave the ship.

[edit] Which objects are involved in the puzzle?

[edit] Is this puzzle essential to the plot, or is it a secondary objective?

  • Essential

[edit] What actions do you need to take?

[edit] How many turns do you have to complete the puzzle?

  • Limited only by the oxygen in your suit.

[edit] What text appears after each action is completed?

(Entering airlock)

  • Go to corridor leading to airlock
  • Open airlock
    • With the power restored the ship you release the safety lock on the airlock so you should be able to go in and out with ease.
  • Go to airlock
  • Go outside
    • Are you sure? Without some way to control your movement out there it could be dangerous.

(Killing yourself)

  • Go outside
    • As you push out of the Air Lock and into space, you're momentarily overcome by a rush of vertigo. Your momentum carries you just out of reach of the hull, and you are helpless to stop your gradual drift into empty space. Looks like it'll be a slow death by asphyxiation. Unless you take off your helmet?

(Finding the EVA pack)

  • Examine EVA pack
    • Attached to a hook on the wall is an EVA pack designed to help you navigate outside the influence where the gravity generator is of no help.
  • Take EVA pack
    • You lift the EVA pack from the wall and are about to attach it to your suit when you notice it is incomplete. There doesn't seem to be any fuel attached. Also the navigation controls are missing, you remember your engineer telling you she needed to take them away to fix them. You hope she did.

(Finding components)

  • Go to crew's quarters
  • Examine shelf
    • Sat on the shelf by Chief Engineer Helen's bunk you see a small control stick.
  • Take Control Stick
    • This is the control system for some kind of suit. Helen must have been working on this in her spare time. She never stops.
  • Go to generator room
  • Examine Mini Fuel Cannister
    • A small matte black cylinder, this contains an incredibly highly pressurised mixture of propellant gases. A generic coupling allows connection to several appliances.
  • Take Mini Fuel Cannister
    • Thankfully it's portable enough to be moved around easily, though probably best not to knock a pressurised cannister around too much.

(Fixing EVA pack)

  • Use control stick with EVA pack
    • The control stick clips into place on the EVA pack and comes to life. Success, it looks like she had fixed it for you. She's getting a raise when you see her again... well maybe not a raise but a drink at least.
  • Use fuel cannister with EVA pack
    • The generic connector interfaces nicely with the EVA pack and the fuel gauges flick up to a full load. This should last quite a while.
  • (Once both parts have been attached)
    • The EVA pack seems fully functionally now. If you wear this over your spacesuit you should be ready for a trip outside.

(Going outside)

  • Go to airlock
  • Wear EVA pack
    • You clip the device to the back of your space suit as it was designed too. Now you're properly mobile.
  • Go outside (first time)
    • As you push out of the Air Lock and into space, you're momentarily overcome by a rush of vertigo. Steadying yourself, you fire a couple of short bursts on the thrusters to stabilise. You're now drifting, stationary, just outside the Air Lock door.

[edit] What words do you read when you complete the puzzle?

  • As you push out of the Air Lock and into space, you're momentarily overcome by a rush of vertigo. Steadying yourself, you fire a couple of short bursts on the thrusters to stabilise. You're now drifting, stationary, just outside the Air Lock door.

[edit] What words do you read if you don't complete the puzzle?

  • If you exit the Air Lock without the EVA pack fully assembled "As you push out of the Air Lock and into space, you're momentarily overcome by a rush of vertigo. [edit] Help! I'm stuck! Give me a hint

  • How do you usually exit a spaceship?
  • So, you want to do some Extra Vehicular Activity?
  • The EVA pack might be useable with the right parts
