[edit] Location

What is the name of your location?

Top Deck Fore Corridor

What text is displayed to the player upon entering the location for the first time, if there is any?

As you stride into the fore section of the top deck, you immediately notice the lack of usual illumination. The emergency generator is doing its best, but can only power so many rooms.

Write your location description here.

(when power down) The corridor, like most of the rest of the ship, is narrow and cramped. The bridge door to the fore is surrounded by glowering red LED lights, indicating an emergency lockdown; port lies your personal quarters[if unvisited], where you just came from[end if]; to the starboard is the ship's briefing room; aft for more corridor fun. In the corner, the ladder leading down to the other decks resembles a dark pit even blacker than the view from your quarters' porthole. You'll need some sort of light before venturing that way.

(when power restored) The corridor, like most of the rest of the ship, is narrow and cramped. The bridge door to the fore [if bridge door locked] is surrounded by glowering red LED lights, indicating an emergency lockdown[otherwise] is operational[end if]; port lies your personal quarters; to the starboard is the ship's briefing room; aft for more corridor fun. In the corner is the ladder leading down to the other decks.

Where does the player go, or what is displayed when the player tries to go in the fore, aft, port, starboard, up, or down directions?

fore:

(if open) Bridge

The bridge door is closed. The damage to the ship has caused it to lockdown. [first time] Nevermind, you should be able to override it using the retinal scanner.[end if]

aft: Top Deck Aft Corridor

port: Captain's Quarters

starboard: [before going] The briefing room door slides open.[end if] Briefing Room

up: You're as far up as this ship allows, both physically and in rank.

down: with light: Middle Deck Fore Corridor

without light: Are you sure? It's very dark, and you are likely to be eaten by a space-grue.

2nd attempt without light: There is a space-grue. It's quite grotesque. Your 2nd to last thought is "How the hell did a space-grue get on the ship?" Needless to say, your very last thought is the absolute utter agony of laser-sharp teeth puncturing your body, your flesh ripped and torn from your fragile form, your spacesuit's precious atmosphere dissipating all around, leaving you unable to vocalise your abject torment. In space, no-one can hear you scream. GAME OVER, MAN, GAME OVER!

What is displayed when a player tries to go in a direction that has no exits.

[all directions accounted for].

If you have any notes for the programmers about the location, put them here.

[edit] Scenery Objects

What is the name of your object?

Retinal Scanner

Provide three or more words for the player to refer to your object with.

scanner

Describe your object here.

This is the retinal scanner for emergencies to ensure only authorised personnel can enter the bridge. Thankfully you are authorised, it's your ship.

(first time) You installed it a few months ago to replace your outdated fingerprint scanner after replicants tried to take the ship by assuming the form of Commander Suze. It didn't surprise you that she'd attempt a mutiny but it was all too well planned to be her handy work. They'd already set the ship on course for Alwidia before Doc managed to flood the bridge with a lethal toxin, and the smell still won't come out of your chair. Thankfully replicants can't duplicate the complex structure of the human eye. Unfortunately, the increased popularity of these devices has seen a significant rise in activity of the black market eye-gougers. A far more frightening threat.[end]

How can the object be manipulated by the player, and what happens, or is displayed when the player attempts to do so? (for example, the player may try to take or push or pull or jump over your object...)

attack: Taking your frustration out on the scanner isn't going to solve the problem. Although it would probably make you feel a little better about the situation though.

use :

(before ship is repressurised) With your helmet in the way this isn't going to work. You're going to need to remove it to open the door and with the ship depressurised that would be awfully lethal. Luckily, since the ship's repressurisation controls are located in the engine room, all is not lost. If you can repressurise the ship, you should be able use the scanner properly.

(once ship is repressurised) With the ship now reasonably stable it should be safe to open your helmet visor. With the visor open you breath the ship's stale air and are almost overwhelmed by the bizarre mix of smells you've been deprived off. Focusing on your mission you press you eye against the scanner and with a few beeps the scanner goes green and the bridge door is unlocked. The replace the visor for now, best stay inside the safety of your suit until you're on your way again.

It's surrounded by deep red LED lights indicating an emergency shutdown. Immediately to the left of the bridge door is your recently installed standard spec retinal scanner, controlling access.
